[005] Bi(ggus)-Weekly Digest

Easter is such a weird time because you just have all this chocolate. This would be huge for big chocolate nerds. I, however, enjoy it on occasion. Still, as someone who rarely buys snacks, I've had to fall back on my Easter eggs and miscellaneous chocolate treats I'm not really hyped about but they're there and I'm peckish so-- Ah! What the heck. Chow town. At least I finally put back up some old posters, used up a candle with a container I've been dying to use (<-- hasn't figured out how to use it yet), and put up some fly traps. Big things happening in the room.

Commonplace Entries: a "gift drawer," populated overtime with giftable thrift finds and other deals, can save me from the last minute holiday panic; put a layer of contact paper between peel & stick and the wall for easy removal; hang washing with clothes hangers instead of clothes pins (where relevant) to make the transfer to the wardrobe less daunting; get smooth lines from a gel pen by stuffing a bit of tac/kneaded eraser into the tube.

Games I've Been Playing

Slay the Spire 2 I've got both my husband and good friend hype for the first game so I was basically sat down and convinced to try the second game, as apparently it's just the first but even better. You can tell how not tapped into Slay the Spire I am when my first thought playing was, "this is like Vampire Crawlers," (a game that isn't even out yet).¹ Still, I've been having fun, even as it follows the roguelite methodology of disembowelling my self-confidence with each failed run but that's why we like 'em.

Ikenfell Over the past couple of years, I've started this game and not completed it. Not because it's too long-winded, but because it lacks cloud save and I keep uninstalling it, I guess. Anyways, I finally beat it. Cute art, fun battles, a cool accessibility feature you can enable that just skips all battles (I just used this to skip the parts I already played and low-level enemies), and it's incredibly "LGTBQIA+ Tumblr" which is just cute and funny, maybe even a bit nostalgic. I'm almost sad this game never blew up within those crowds, they basically spoon-feed you all the ships to fucking... Make animatics for. It's an injustice. They even gave some characters their own fully sung theme songs. I was never a part of the Steven Universe train, God smite me, but I sense the potential for an overlap that just isn't happening yet

Animal Crossing: New Horizons I'm in so deep, I've got a whole Obsidian folder for this. I've been playing everyday since the 2nd of April. If you must know, my island is called Kuzametal, it's in the northern hemisphere, apples (hey, Apple), Biff and Sylvia starting villagers, green airport, arms, body, legs, flesh, skin, bone, sinew (good luck), and it's going to be fucking awesome once I'm done with it (perceived evil intent/foreboding).

Media Treats

same as it ever was Am I just going to encounter Once in a Lifetime in all its plausible forms every bi-week now? Is this how it must be? Same as it ever was? I think a curse was inflicted upon me when a customer came in this exact bi-week with a radio hanging from the handle of his shiny black mobility scooter, blaring music as he made his entrance. I took some bloatware off his phone, he called me sugar, and left. By that point, his radio was off so the exit wasn't nearly as cool. Anyways, when my colleague asked what my entrance song would be, I foolishly suggested Once in a Lifetime.

Sabrina Carpenter’s Glamorous World of Hetero-Pessimism This think piece indirectly reminded me of how positive my relationship and wider friendships with men are nowadays. That isn't because I'm a "pick-me" per se. Rather, I do my best to only surround myself with guys who aren't scum. I suppose it also helps that I exited the dating scene so soon into my early adulthood, go figure.

Critiques of #N-WordYaoi I think my consideration for how to censor this plays into the discussion at hand quite nicely. In other news, last month I did re-watch some of the Yaoi series' I liked as a teen and, lemme tell ya, they do not like consent! And if you must know, I watched Love Stage and Sekaiichi Hatsukoi.

Angry T-Word Gamer: Boogie Usually I would posit the usual comments on queer shitposts, "protect queer arts," but I feel like the worst thing Kiki Ash could say wouldn't be, "no, shut up," if she did find that phrase overplayed (if not, awesome. Okay. That's that, I guess). Nevertheless, I love what happens when gender is a fuck. I am reminded of when I was 14 in a friendship with some 28 year old from South Carolina. He showed me footage, I stayed noided, he was mega fixated on the Kaijuverse and Dragon Ball and, more importantly, he made me a theme song once. I wonder how he's doing now. We stopped talking after he reacted to me in my prom dress.
