Establishing premises of GTG:DX

The Jam that Spreads Bread
About two Saturday's ago, the 1-Bit Jam began. The premise is as simple as it sounds: two-colour palette, can change that palette, but can't change the alpha (save for post-processing) -- funnily enough, I saw a lot of discourse in the Discord about that last point. Not really a focus for me. My eye was drawn to the theme:
"𝖄𝖔𝖚 𝖘𝖙𝖆𝖗𝖙 𝖜𝖎𝖙𝖍 𝖊𝖛𝖊𝖗𝖞𝖙𝖍𝖎𝖓𝖌 𝖆𝖓𝖉 𝖊𝖓𝖉 𝖜𝖎𝖙𝖍 𝖓𝖔𝖙𝖍𝖎𝖓𝖌."
Immediately I thought of Skinamarink which I kinda hated LOL but I also acknowledge I went into it with the idea that I'd be bored out of my mind. Ah well, it's cool to bring up (sorry to appropriate a potential cult classic) and did inspire the premise of GTG.
I unfortunately missed the deadline, but a nice little game has been birthed from it. About the feminine grasp for substance. Hold onto that latter phrase. And imagine gaining some introspective with each loss or whatever. Beats me what this ends up being about.
It actually, like, broke my heart a little. Firstly, it reaffirmed my terrible time management. But, secondly, and more importantly, it reaffirmed my struggle with bringing ideas to fruition. I've lamented this a lot privately, but fantasy never leaves my head, so once I reduce something to it, it stays in the gutters of one of my lobes up there.
Luckily, I pushed myself enough to form the basic visual (and then practical) prototypes. Then, I realised I was getting further to breaking that second habit.
About Girl the Goblin
The desk. My desk, actually.
You're in a state. Navigate your almost incomprehensible home for familiar artefacts and greater comforts.
GTG is a simple point-and-click I put together on Ren'Py using image maps. Definitely new territory. I also wish the image buttons were the same shapes as their image, as opposed to squares. Not sure how to fix that, alas.
You can use whatever name you want when it asks. The default name, however, is Null.
What I have so far. A basic menu and introduction
The Feminine Grasp for Substance
I don't think I'm the most intellectual person to discuss this, but that phrase for me is polysemic:
- Substance as something
- Something as substance
- Substance(s) (sometimes)
Take that how you will. It's good the game is more a conceptual piece, if anything, because I can stay as illusive in its meaning as I want.
